As we drove down the interstate, my wife said, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" She's right. It's cold outside, snow is on the ground and there is Christmas music playing on the radio. You know the saying, "It's the most wonderful time time of the year!"
And it really is. However, with all the hustle and bustle of the season, it's easy to sometimes forget what it is really all about. So let me tell you a story. The other day, my five year old came home from preschool and asked to have her own Christmas tree in her room. It just so happened that my wife had a small tree up in the attic. When I turned on the tree's lights, I don't know what was glowing brighter, the tree or the joy in her eyes.
She lit up. Then, she asked if we could make some oranaments for her tree. You should have seen me cutting out little trees, squares, diamonds, and circles out of red construction paper with a little blond girl climbing over my back to watch. The last ornament I cut out was a cross. Then, my precious little girl said something I hope to never forget, "You know what daddy, now every morning when I wake up and see that cross on the tree I will remember that Christmas is all about Jesus!"
You know what Clarissa, you're right, Christmas is all about Jesus. May each of us remember to celebrate the real meaning of the season!
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them." Luke 2: 1-7 NIV
