Have you ever visited a beach? If you asked my wife and two older daughters what the perfect vacation would be in their opinion, they would say relaxing in the sun and letting the surf wash up on their feet. For my youngest daughter, it would be digging a hole in the sand to China and then jumping in it! The beach is beautiful. I have often gathered up a handful of sand and watched it slip away through my fingers. Have you ever done that?
Sand is small, very small, and there is a bunch of it. I would hate to think that I had to count the number of sand granules just in one handful of sand, wouldn’t you? Least alone, count every grain of sand on the earth. And yet, that is how much you cross the mind of God. You are no accident. You are dearly loved by your creator. The next time you are feeling down about life go grab and handful of sand and read Psalm 139.
The psalmist declared,
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand – when I awake, I am still with you” (Psalm 139: 13-18, NIV).
Ponder on those words. Meditate on them. Let the truths found in this passage of Holy Scripture bury themselves deep inside your heart. The psalmist declares that God is your creator, the giver of your life. You are the treasured prize of creation. You are the testament to God’s vast power and imagination. Every detail of your life is extensive and remarkable. The Bible declares that you are the “…apple of His eye” (Psalm 17:8, Zechariah 2:8).
Don’t ever forget how much God loves you. See every day as a gift from Him. Remind yourself that He is there with you in the good times and the bad. His love will never fail you. Even when you fail, He will not fail you. Jesus went to the cross to make the unforgiveable – forgiveable. Remember that. He loves you, so pray to Him. He loves you, so live for Him. He loves you, so read His Word, the Bible and let it transform your thoughts and ways until they are His thoughts and His ways. He loves you, so enjoy your life and the relationship God invites you to have with Him.
